 Retirement Policy

Retiree Benefit Package for
Global Lines Pilots (Global Air International & Global Express Airways)

It is imperative that those who choose to retire under the following guidelines, understand that once in a retirement status, your retirement is not reversible and thus it should be considered carefully before you select this option. If you do not understand the terms of retirement, please seek assistance and clarification.

The Staff, Officers and Crew Members of Global Air International and Global Express Airways are only restricted by their rank and imaginations. However, there comes a time that each and every one of us will want to relax, move on to other interests or to be with their family and friends. To this, brings up the fact that we need a policy to cover, protect and to remember those who have served our Airline(s) well and who now wish to retire. Keep in mind that record keeping for retired personnel as far as flight hours or further promotions is redundant and only indicates that one has retired prematurely otherwise they could still be flying and earning promotions as an active member of our Airline(s) and not as a retired member. Also keep in mind the difference between resign and retire. A resignation does not involve keeping any records for an individual and in many cases, may be a forced resignation in the event a Pilot fails to remain active on the appropriate Pilot roster. The following conditions of retirement pertain:

1).        Staff Retirement:

Staff Members have obtained such title because of their demonstrated willingness and ability to operate and manage certain aspects of the day to day operations of our Airline(s.) Many also perform additional duties such as aircraft painting, route planning, scheduling, web site maintenance and/or logistics. However, in order to be an effective Manager, we must know what our staff goes through and so we must lead by example. That means pulling on the flight jacket and putting in some hours on a consistent basis. Before accepting the retirement request of a Staff Member, we must determine what they are really asking for as three forms of retirement are available to our Staff Members.

A).       Sometimes a Staff Member, for whatever reason(s,) may no longer be able or willing to perform their duties as both a Staff Member AND as a Pilot. When faced with this situation, that Staff Member will be asked to make a decision that is binding. If a Staff member holds a Global Express Airways ID or a Global Air International ID they will inform the (CEO) Chief Executive Officer and inform them which of the following options they are applying for. Once granted, the decision is final as maintaining separate records for all classes of pilots AND retirees is not a viable option.

B).           When a Staff Member is no longer able to fulfill their obligation to manage AND fly, they may choose to resign/retire as a Pilot and remain as a Staff Member only (subject to approval.) In such cases, once approved by the CEO, they will be removed from the active Pilot’s roster and moved to the Retiree page where it will be noted that they remain as Staff Members but do not fly any longer for the company(s.) They may still fly when the mood hits them (as long as it is an aircraft they were qualified by rank to fly at the time of retirement,) however they will no longer submit bids/pireps and they will not accrue any further hours or rank promotions. They will continue to draw their Staff Member pay but no longer be mandated by required FAA hours or Pilot Union agreements. They will draw one final installment of stock options which they may continue to hold as an investment or sell back to the company at market price at the time of retirement.

C).          When a Staff Member is no longer able to fulfill their obligations to manage AND fly, they may choose to resign/retire as a Staff Member and remain as a Pilot only. In such cases, once approved by the CEO, they will be removed from the Staff roster but will remain on the active Pilot roster. Said Pilot will continue to submit bids/pireps and to accrue hours and rank promotions. They will continue to draw their Pilot’s pay and will be fully mandated by the required FAA hours as well as rejoin the Pilot’s union as a non-“Management/Staff Member.” Their stock options will be terminated and the cash value paid to the Pilot within 72 hours of ceasing to be Management.

D).        When a Staff Member has just plain had it. They do not want to manage AND they do not want to fly and are no longer able or willing to fulfill their obligations to manage AND fly, they may choose to resign/retire completely. In such cases, once approved by the CEO, they will be removed from both the Staff and the active Pilot’s roster. They will be placed on the Retiree page where it will be noted that they retire as both a Staff Member and as a Pilot. They may still fly when the mood hits them (as long as it is an aircraft they were qualified by rank to fly at the time of retirement,) however they will no longer submit bids/pireps and they will not accrue any further hours or rank promotions. They will receive their final paycheck and their stock options will be terminated and the cash value paid to the Staff Member within 72 hours of ceasing to be employed.

2).        Officer Retirement:

Officers are those Flight Crew Members who have obtained the rank of Captain or above because of the dedicated hours they have flown for our Airline(s.) These are the people who have lead by example. They pulled on the flight jacket and put in hours on a consistent basis.

A).       Sometimes an Officer, for whatever reason(s,) may no longer be able or willing to perform their duties as a Pilot. When faced with this situation, that Officer will be asked to make a decision that is binding. If the Officer holds a Global Express Airways ID or a Global Air International ID they will inform the CIO (Chief Information Officer)/Flight Crew Manager. Once granted, the decision is final as maintaining separate records for all classes of pilots AND retirees is not a viable option.

B).           When an Officer is no longer able to fulfill their obligation to fly, they may choose to retire as a Pilot. In such cases, once approved by the CIO/Flight Crew Manager, they will be removed from the active Pilot’s roster and moved to the Retiree page where it will be noted what their rank and hours were at the time they retired. They may still fly when the mood hits them (as long as it is an aircraft they were qualified by rank to fly at the time of retirement,) however they will no longer submit bids/pireps and they will not accrue any further hours or rank promotions. They will receive all retiree pay and benefits as outlined in their collective bargaining agreement with the Union.

3).        Crew Retirement:

Crew Members are those pilots who have achieved 149.9 flight hours OR less with our Airline(s.) Unfortunately, many people who join a virtual airline do so because it was exciting at the time, something to do at the moment and/or because they just got MS Flight Simulator and took it as far as they wanted to before moving on to race car driving or becoming an airport tycoon. Because of this transient nature, a Pilot with 149.9 flight hours or less must resign as retirement is not offered at this level.

A).       Sometimes a Crew Member, for whatever reason(s,) may no longer be able or willing to perform their duties as a Pilot. When faced with this situation, that Officer will be asked to make a decision that is binding. If the Officer holds a Global Express Airways ID or a Global Air International ID they will inform the CIO/Flight Crew Manager. Once granted, the decision is final as maintaining separate records for all classes of Pilots AND Retirees is not a viable option.
